WHAT: Come stop shop and sip with Christina Gears and the Irving International Women’s Consortium as they host the IIWC’s 6th annual Influence of the Purse. IIWC, with a mission to educate, support, and create opportunities for women of all races and cultures, celebrates the bond of sisterhood in grand style at the annual Influence of the Purse auction. The auction has become a highly acclaimed event offering grand memorabilia and charm in its selection of gently used purses donated from leaders and actresses from across the U.S. The live auction of celebrity purses is set against a tantalizing backdrop of unique and hand-crafted purses which will be offered to the public during a silent auction. Light hors d’oeuvres and wine will be served.

to audio books while exercising and I loved listening to this book.

The book is set in the early 1960′s in Alabama and is told through the voices of three

women, Aibileen Clark, a black maid to Elizabeth Leefolt, Minny, Abileen’s friend, a

younger black maid, and Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan, a white woman and a recent college

graduate, who is friends with the women employing the other two women. In the audio

book, the shifting points of view are told through the voices of different narrator and

different styles of speaking and accents are captured. As the story develops, it shows a

very enlightening picture of the struggles of white and black women in the early 1960′s,

but especially the plight of the black women, who had almost no power and no voice.

This book may be one of the best books you will ever read. I highly recommend it!
